DCC 2012 -- The Gnuradio DVD

Since the ARRL/TAPR 2012 Digital Communications Conference Youtube video has become available, I've had a number of requests for copies of the live DVD that we handed out during the Sunday Morning Seminar on Gnuradio.

That DVD was a snapshot of ani Xubuntu Linux system with Gnuradio installed. Gnuradio and much of the software in the Xubuntu distribution are licensed under the Gnu General Public License, in order to distribute the DVD in compliance with the GPL's requirements I would need to make available the source code not only of Gnuradio, but of all the GPL-licensed components of xubuntu, available along with the disk image. For a number of reasons, that's not practical for me to do. Don't get me wrong -- I'm not hiding anything, I just don't have the logistics to put the very large amount of code required on my server.

If you'd like to play with Gnuradio, the very best advice I can give you is to install a Linux distribution -- any Ubuntu flavor, Debian, or Fedora will work -- and then download and run this script from Gnuradio contributor Marcus Leech:

http://www.sbrac.org/files/build-gnuradio.

This script will automagically download the latest version of Gnuradio as well as all the other software packages required, and then build the software from source code. It might take quite a while, but you'll end up with a current and complete version of the software.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but as a strong supporter of Open Source Software I want to do the right thing under the GPL, and that means I'm not in a position to distribute the live DVD.
