This is a follow-up to Bob Simmons’ (KD8FHT) email regarding the upcoming
registration of MRC volunteers—to explain ham radio communications support for
MRC

Please be advised that currently there is no separate ham radio communications
support group for the Greene County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC).  Amateur Radio
support for MRC is primarily provided by local county ARES units in conjunction
with ARES support for respective local county public health agencies.  Greene
County MRC works through the Greene County Combined Health District (GCCHD).
GCCHD and MRC are and have been Served Agencies of GCARES (Greene County Amateur
Radio Emergency Service) for a number of years.

MRC primarily is comprised of medical and public health personnel and associated
support personnel, including CERT volunteers, to respond to medical needs in
time of disaster.  Of course, Greene County hams who  also are certified CERT
members are welcome to register as MRC volunteers, if desired.  MRC and CERT
volunteers are often active when amateur radio auxiliary communications support
may not be required.  CERT is supported by ham radio both county-wide and though
local support groups, as needed.

Please contact me directly  if you would like to know more about GCARES’ support
of GCCHD, MRC and CERT.  Incidentally, the next GCARES meeting will be Monday,
February 27, 2012, 7:30 PM at Beavercreek Township Fire Station 61 Training
Room, Dayton-Xenia Road just west of Orchard Lane.  All GCARES members and other
Greene County hams are invited and encouraged to attend.
