ATTENTION BARC IT "techie" types - - -

 

I received the message below today via the OHIODIGITAL yahoo group.  It's
about HSMM-MESH nodes.  I quickly scanned through some of the reference
links for a cursory view.  It looks interesting, simple and relatively
inexpensive and I thought this might be something the Club and/or Club
members might want to explore.  Please look it over and see if you think
|we| or you might have any interest in this.  I've heard about MESH
previously but have no first hand understanding or experience with
HSMM-MESH.

 

What do you know or think about this?  I'm presuming it's a wireless way to
extend internet service over a wider area-via a MESH WAN, LAN or Wi-Fi
network.

We get lots of questions for advice on how to get rolling with broadband
microwave networking.
One of the most helpful things we can to to help many is to encourage them
to take a look at this free book. 

The vast majority of the book is directly applicable to working with
HSMM-MESH(tm) networks. 
Now the key exception is the HSMM-MESH(tm) firmware is different than what
is described in the book - look to the hsmm-mesh.org web page for that info.

But all the stuff about antennas, coax loss, microwave prorogation, etc. is
directly usable.

Some that have a background in microwave RF can benefit from the networking
sections of the book. 
Network specialist that have not worked with broadband low power microwave
RF before will find a wealth
of clearly explained information on how to handle the RF side of the
project.

I send out a message like this periodically as we have new users 
that will have joined after the last version of the message went out. 

But, everybody on this email list should have a copy of this book, read it
and share it with those on your team. 
It is well written, in an accessible manner. 

So get a copy of the "textbook" and get it out to your team members and 
any ham that wants to really understand what a mesh network really is.
