Subject: Request for amateur radio support October 16, 2010
Greetings all!
I am writing asking for you to help spread the word for a large bike ride
that has asked for amateur radio communications support. The Cystic Fibrosis
Foundation-Dayton Office is holding a bike ride fundraiser on Saturday
October 16, 2010 starting and finishing at Caesar Creek State Park's public
beach off of SR 73 near Harveysburg, OH. The event will have a 21 mile, a 32
mile, and a 65 mile bike course. Details are still unfolding so I have no
specific assignments yet, but thus far there will be a need for fixed
position ops at intersections, a few bike mobile ops to help cover the
portion that utilizes the Little Miami Bike Trail, and mobile operators for
roving positions on the course. Frequencies are not set yet either as I just
got the details of this event today. We have 4 water / rest areas to cover
and numerous other positions. I will be working up the communications plan
over the next couple days and at that time I will have a better idea how
many operators we will need for minimum staffing, but of course with an
event like this extra help will be put to use.
With the ease of congestion in the beach area my plan is to provide maps,
course descriptions, and assignments via email ahead of the event so that
operators can go direct to their assignment and not get stuck in the traffic
jam in the start / finish area. The ride starts at 8:30 AM and the course
will close at 2:30 PM. As of yet there is no answer if the 2:30 closure will
be a firm time to pull people off the road, or just how it will work.
Pleas feel free to include this plea for help in club newsletters and pass
it on to any email lists or other operators you may have contact with. I
will pass on additional detail as they become available.
