Good Morning!
I am sure some of you are aware, we have been asked to keep W8BI, the DARA
station, on the air 24/7 in response to the disaster in Haiti.
Dave Kalter, KC8OCP, has volunteered to coordinate our effort, however, he
will need quite a lot of help to accomplish this. To this end I am helping
him to develop a schedule of willing hams to help "man" the radios.
You do not need to have experience in HF communications, or to have more
than your technician license as the plan is to have two people at all times
to listen to the various frequencies and one of them will be experienced and
will be the control operator.
At this time you would be monitoring for any stations trying to make contact
out of Haiti. To date, Dave has made contact with at least 2 hams located in
the disaster area and has been of assistance in passing messages to net
control.
We are asking that all hams that are available and have the ability and
willingness to help to please contact me via e-mail at jmb1027 at woh.rr.com
with the dates and times you are available to assist at the B-road site.
Keeping in mind this will be a weeks long effort we want to develop the
schedule for one week at time. Please look at your schedules beginning right
now through January 22, 2010 and decide when you would be available. If
possible we would like for each person to be available for 3-4 hour shifts.
This would include night time shifts.
I will be monitoring my e-mail for all replies.
Again, my e-mail is jmb1027 at woh.rr.com please reply ASAP!
Thanks for your willingness to put your skills to use during this horrific
disaster!
73, de
Janese
