NEXT GREENE COUNTY ARES MEETING will be Monday, January 26, at 7:30 PM in
the Training Room at Beavercreek Township Fire Station 1, on Dayton-Xenia
Road just west of Orchard Lane.
The Agenda will include a presentation on general response to a call-out by
a GCARES served agency and a discussion of GCARES goals and strategic
direction for 2009.
All Greene County hams are encouraged to attend, especially GCARES members
and Assistant EC's. Please try to attend if you can!

FUTURE GCARES MEETINGS SCHEDULE
4th Monday of February (2/23), March (3/23) and April (4/27). Because of
Hamvention, Field Day and vacation activities, there will be no GCARES
meetings in May, June and July.
Hamvention is Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 15-16-17, at Hara Arena.

Field Day is Saturday and Sunday, June 27-28, and all GCARES members are
encourage to participate in Field Day with one or more of the Greene County
Clubs (BARC, UVARC and XWARN)-mark your calendar. Further information about
local Field Day activities will be posted as finals plans are developed.
GCARES meetings for the second half of 2009 will be fourth Mondays, August
24, September 28, October 26, and November 23, 7:30 PM, in the Training Room
at Beavercreek Township Fire Station #1. There will not be a meeting in
December.
All Greene County hams should routinely monitor the Greene County Primary
Information & Alerting Frequency, 147.165 MHz (100.0 Hz PL required for the
Bellbrook Remote Receiver).
In the event of an actual, suspected or pending disaster or emergency
situation, MONITOR (or ACTIVATE) a Greene County Information & Alerting Net
on XWARN 147.165 MHz Repeater (100 Hz PL).
First Backup Frequency is BARC 147.045 MHz Repeater (no PL required).
Second Backup Frequency is UVARC 145.410 MHz Repeater (118.8 Hz PL).

SPRING 2009 GREENE COUNTY AMATEUR RADIO LICENSE COURSES will begin Sunday,
February 8 and continue weekly from 7:00 to 9:00 PM through April 5.
The Technician Class Course will be held in the training room at the
Beavercreek Township Fire Department Administration Building on Orchard Lane
just south of Dayton-Xenia Road.
The General Class Course will be held in the Training Room at Beavercreek
Township Fire Department Station 1 on Dayton-Xenia Road just west of Orchard
Lane.
The Extra Class Course will be held in the Training Room at Fairborn Fire
Station 2 on Commerce Center Blvd just south of Dayton-Yellow Springs Road
and just east of I-675.

The Test Session will be held at 6:00 PM on April 19 in the Training Room at
Beavercreek Township Fire Department Station 1.
There is no charge for either the course or the test but all students are
encouraged to have a copy of the respective ARRL License Manual. We
anticipate having current editions of each license manual available the
first two weeks of the courses at a discounted price.

GREENE COUNTY 2009 SKYWARN SPOTTER CLASS, sponsored by Greene County EMA and
the National Weather Service, will be held Monday, February 9 (second
Monday), 6:30 PM, in the Greene County Media Room on Ledbetter Road on US-42
just north of US-35 (formerly the US-35 By-pass). There is no cost for this
class and no registration is needed. For more information about this event,
please contact Rhonda McLain, Greene County Emergency Management, 562-5130.
All Greene County hams and others who participate in area Weather Nets
should attend for this annual refresher course. Public safety personnel and
other interested parties also are invited and encouraged to attend.
NOTE: The February XWARN meeting, normally held on the 2nd Monday, has been
rescheduled for the 3rd Monday, February 16, at the usual meeting location,
Greene Memorial Hospital Auditorium.
