The newsgroup alt.horology is good for physical clocks. I had some 
interesting discussions on there reguarding syncing them to crystal 
standards. By syncing, I was talking of open-loop system, with no feedback.


There was discussions about the limitations of these "radio controlled 
clocks" which it appears are only updated once per day, so whilst having 
good long term accuracy, the short term is poor.

However, most of it is not precision devices, but it is well worth 
looking at.
