If the jumps were caused by gravitational effects there's a whole bunch of
physicists trying to detect gravitational waves in mind-numbing ways (read
about LISA at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_Interferometer_Space_Antenna ) who would
just *love* to know!

(and you'd probably get a Nobel Prize thrown in)
