[time-nuts] [OT] Help needed with HP 16700A

Apologies for the somewhat off topic post, but some folks here may be
able to assist...

I have a HP 16700A logic analyzer that I'm trying to troubleshoot. I
can get access to the console via the serial port, and I can see that
it boots up normally, except that it fails to start the X server, and
drops to a login prompt for which I have no credentials.

The complete boot dump from the serial console is posted at the end of
the email.

I have a keyboard and mouse plugged in. I have the service manual, but
it basically says to either re-install the OS or replace the CPU
board. Nothing about the different operating states, logins, etc.

The monitor connected to the VGA port displays 8 yellow boxes across
the bottom of the screen once the boot process starts. They say:

[empty]
[empty]
[empty]
[REMOTE MODE *]
[empty]
[empty]
[DISPLAY FUNCTNS]
[AUTO LF]

It seems like it is failing to find what it needs to start up using
the external monitor (not seeing the keyboard?), and so is defaulting
to the serial console.

I have the latest software CD from Agilent, but am still searching for
a SCSI CD-ROM to load it with.

If anybody can shed some light on the issue or suggest troubleshooting
steps, that would be great. I'm in the Seattle area, so any locals
would be welcome for a troubleshooting session.

Thanks!

-Pete
