Another thought I had earlier, is it possible perhaps that  Trimble were 
running out of space for a firmware upgrade and cut back on the  complexity of 
this routine having decided that precision of ambient  temperature measurement 
was sufficiently of a "secondary" nature not  to warrant the extra code they'd 
used when more space was available?
