[time-nuts] The Black hole of Black Holes...

Everything the lab can't use anymore goes to "salvage". Anything that isn't
furniture (computers, scopes, test equipment, etc.) goes to Bentley's
Auction House and is auctioned off once a month down in Albuquerque. These
auctions include surplus stuff from Sandia, Phillips, and other big labs
around NM. The furniture stays at salvage but outside in a huge lot and
sells on the third Thursday of the month. You can get real bargains there.
Big steel government desks for 2 bucks, chairs for a quarter, lab
workbenches for a few more dollars.

Ed Grothus and his team of pirates used to go to the auctions but LANL
really screwed things up. Typical things they'd do is let the vacuum out of
dewars and CRTs for safety reasons making stuff completely worthless. Since
the old man's health was declining, I don't think they've gone to any
auctions in well over a year. If you need a noval tube socket, they got
em. If you need an LCD monitor, best to go elsewhere.
