[time-nuts] Cesium standard prices

Perrier,

Where are you located?

I have been 'hooked' on CS standards for a couple of years now and have 9
functioning units, all HP, mostly 5061A's but also two 5061B's. I also have
two complete units with dead tubes and another parts beast.

The important parameters are Beam Current and Ion Pump Current, although,
with an external HV power supply, I have been able to 'pump' several tubes
down to reveal a usable Beam Current.

I paid a minimum of $250 (including shipping) to around $1,100 (IIRC) for
units that I was able to get working. Only a couple of them arrived in
working condition. If the tube is good, the rest is relatively easy to
repair. The other two 'complete' units, I was able to kluge together from
the parts beast and what arrived that I paid around $350 each for.

I have noted a couple of units from Australia on ePay for around $200 but in
unknown condition.

If you can get a measure of the Ion Pump Current and the Beam Current (which
is easy to do if the unit works), the unit becomes more valuable the lower
the Ion Pump Current is and the higher the Beam Current is.

There are a couple of folks on the list that have been very helpful to me in
getting to know these units and they may have additional info.

Hope this helps.

Joe

Subject: [time-nuts] Cesium standard prices

Gents,

Time nut junkie that I am, I'd like to someday acquire a cesium standard.

Several questions: price for a reasonably working unit. Any specific model
that one should look for? What about the AS IS HP units that show up on
epay? And if you get one how can you know or test it that it's stable?

TIA

Regards,

Perrier
