Did you try telling it the date?

Some of the Z3801As are old enough that their roll over date has already 
happened.  You can see that if the battery dies.

You can "fix" that at power up by telling them the date before they get it 
from the satellites.  If your date is reasonably close, they will jump to 
near it rather than 20 years before that.
