GPIB is half duplex.  You have to turn the line around to tell it 
give-me-the-next-sample.  Talk-only avoids that.

In some sense, it's similar to flow control, but it's more likely to be 
implemented in software or wait for software to tell it to send data or ...

With talk-only, the OS buffer can handle many lines in case the scheduler is 
not cooperating.
