There are 2 problems I see with this kind of link:

1.) A user doesn't see where the link takes him before he has clicked on
the link, so he can easily be taken to a "bad" web site.

2.) These short links eventually expire after some time, so if you find
an email with the short link later in the ML archive then the short link
may not work anymore, even though the original link may still be valid.
