The proper way is to disassemble the pump (either the vane pumps or the membrane pumps) and  clean the guts (or install the Pace rebuild kit). 
But almost every Pace user just disconnects the hose from the iron and lets it slurp up some alcohol.   Do a very short burst,  let it set a while,  then run it for a few seconds to pump out the dregs.  Repeat several times.  Alway keep the exhaust port covered with a rag, or it will spew grunge everywhere.
