[time-nuts] Thoughts on IR thermometers?

Dear Time-Nuts,

A not so off the topic question:

Does anyone have some documentation on HP 2804a thermometer? It is 
using a quarz crystal as the probe, and therefore is an object of 
interest for the true time-nut.
